HLI Beyond Political Ideologies
by
Dana Clare, M.A., dip N.H.

I
n HLI we are open to discussing and examining social health issues in a general way based on the principles of Natural Hygiene. HLI does not align itself to any political platform or party as members and supporters of HLI should be free to make up their own minds.

No one ideology or platform has all the answers for improving the quality of life on this planet. Life itself may have the answers. Through living hygienically we learn to tune into Life and allow Life to guide us.

We also see the dangers in blind faith in or rigid adherence to any ideology. Natural Hygiene is based on certain principles, but it is not a closed ideological system. The Hygiene principles grew out of in depth observation of natural processes and a capacity for critical, reflective and independent thinking. Shelton's motto was "Let us have truth though the heavens fall". That motto is an invitation to allow truth to strip us of false ideas or past ideology so that we can have fresh insight. We need an openness to the dynamic energy of Truth, rather than attachment to dogma or socially accepted “truth”.

If we can observe human problems in depth free of ideological blinkers, and without acting from selfish vested interests, then we have a chance of actually understanding and resolving the problems free of prejudice and free of disputes about ideologies or methodologies to solve problems. Our attention will then be focused on observing "what is" rather than "what ideology is best". Our observation will be informed by the facts themselves and the values or principles that best enable us to understand the facts

If we observe the "what is" of current health problems we can see the following facts:

a). Current sociopolitical set-ups create an environment where high levels of chronic disease flourish in almost every country.

b). Trillions of dollars are spent on the disease-care system, with very little positive result.

c). Death, disability and iatrogenic disease due to medical intervention or medical mistakes are a major health problem.

d). The disease care system is increasingly relying on drugs to solve health problems in all age groups.

e). Drugs, being toxic agents, create more disease which again attract more drug treatment.

f). Publicly funded health systems are dominated by the medical model of disease care and spend very little on health promotion and education that address the real (lifestyle) causes of disease.

g). Vaccination for children is compulsory or near compulsory in many countries, despite the evidence of its dangers.

h). Drugging of the mentally ill is often compulsory for those who fall under mental health laws.

i). In every country we face major pollution and environmental
degradation which undermines our health.

j). Taxpayers do not get a choice in most countries about whether or not to support the medical system or whether to subsidize the products of the Drug Companies.

k). The medical model of disease care has a monopoly on public monies and state support. Alternative forms of health care are often actively suppressed by both medical and government authorities.

l). As tax payers and citizens, we do not get a choice to fund a Hygienic health care system in preference to the medical system.

m). Given that there is no choice in directing our tax dollars to different models of health care, or to opt out of all such funding, we have in effect been made compulsory converts to and financiers of the "Church of Modern Medicine".

Observing these facts in depth and the interconnections between these facts is the beginning of insight, intelligent discussion and the birthing of creative solutions.

The first thing to do is to get our own health act in order and to support each other in the process. By getting our own health in order and gaining our independence from the Church of Modern Medicine, we will contribute to a collective shift in consciousness away from passive adherence to and dependence on the disease care system. From the vantage point of empowerment, alternative ways of living and acting that promote our health and freedom will emerge.
